Part of our Community with Billie Jo

Part of our community

Pennian Bank gives each full-time employee 8 hours of
Volunteer Time Off (VTO) per year, as a way to encourage employees to get involved
in the community. For Billie Jo Deiter, Vice President and Branch Executive
Officer at Ickesburg and Loysville Offices, volunteering has been a big part of
her life. She participated in Join Hands Ministry’s Back to School program for
the sixth year. This program provides children in need with a backpack full of
essential school supplies and a voucher for a new pair of school shoes.

Hands Ministry – Action Board Member; Perry Human Services – Treasurer;

Why Does She Volunteer: “There was a point in my life where I benefitted from local organizations and I
vowed to never forget the generosity I felt when they helped me through tough
times. I volunteer to help give back to others who have needs. I also met many
wonderful people who I enjoy volunteering with and have become even more
passionate about helping others. It’s especially rewarding when I see the
gratitude of those we are helping.”

Biggest Challenge: “The biggest challenge is knowing that
sometimes the needs are greater than the services we are able to fulfill.”

Most Rewarding
Aspect:
  “Knowing that I have the
opportunity to give back to a community that is so deserving of my time, and
that hopefully my passion for volunteering will have a positive impact on
someone else.”

Additional Volunteer Time
Off:

Recently,
we have had more opportunities for employees to get involved in the community
through the local United Way organizations. In addition to collecting items in
our offices for the United Way of the Capital Region’s Stuff the Bus event, we
had a team participate on September 10. Over 19,100 items were collected and distributed
to local school districts participating in their school readiness initiative.

Another
team participated in the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata’s Day of Caring on
September 18. The team was tasked with mulching at Sonbeam Early Learning
Center. Our team didn’t stop there. They kept the kindness going by pressure
washing playground equipment.

We
are so grateful to be able to give back to the local communities in Perry,
Juniata and Cumberland Counties.
