Taking the stress out of travel

Family on the beach

Vacations are meant to be relaxing, but under planning and overspending can lead to financial stressors. Consider the following tips to help you make the most out of your time away.

  1. Create a travel budget. It can be easy to overspend when you’re on vacation. The temptations are endless! A budget can help you make better decisions without blowing through your savings account.
  2. Think mini getaway. Sometimes, less is more! Taking shorter, more frequent trips versus one big vacation not only requires less planning, and is generally less expensive, but offers more opportunities to unwind year-round.
  3. Plan in advance. Trip planning can be stressful. Create a reasonable timeline and budget to get everything done. Or look into using a local travel agent to assist in planning.
  4. Notify your bank. This is something you don’t always think about, but nothing makes a trip turn like having your card declined. Notify your bank and your credit card company that you’ll be traveling to help eliminate card issues.
